Connect Surfing and Sustainable Development in the GOOD Maker challenge

While Education and Surf Voluntourism programs have been active in Lobitos, a coastal community in Northern Peru, an infusion of funds will help the newly opened and locally run Community Surf Centre grow. The value of the grant will be multiplied through the purchase and sale of t-shirts that reflect the surf values of the area. Local youth will decide on the design which can be screen printed in close proximity to where they are sold. Visiting travelers will buy the shirts at the Community Surf Centre. 100% of the revenue generated will stay in the community through funding the ongoing English, Environmental Education, Surf/Swim classes. Traveling surfers can assist in the classes taught by local professionals.

For my sister and her husband:
Co-Founder and Executive Director at WAVES for Development. Dave was born in upstate NY where he rode horses and snowboards for fun. His zeal for adventure led him to Colorado State University for and undergraduate Business degree, then on to Mauritania with the Peace Corps where he put his French minor to use. 14 months in, and shortly after 9/11, he began the application process at the School for International Training while working at Jay Peak Ski Resort. Being accepted to both SIT and the Peace Corps again, he spent another 3 years in the Peace Corps in Peru where he combined his service with a MS in Organizational Management. Soon after, with an amazing cast of characters from all over the world he founded WAVES for Development in 2007.
